DO'S & DONT'S: Kos, Greece

If you’re not all about chilling by the pool when you’re on holiday, take a look at all of these tips, recommendations and do’s and don’ts for when you’re in Kos.

- Restaurants or Foods and drinks
If you want to try Greek food, you should go to Sifis or Haven. Both are great places for lunch or dinner with a view of the whole harbour. There even is a large variety for vegans in both restaurants. There also is a long street with only fishmeal restaurants and a beer-street, all cafes with owners from across the world. Make sure to keep in mind that it isn’t appreciated by the locals to give the stray cats and dogs your leftovers.

- Ancient Greece
On Kos there isn’t much to see even though the castle walls and the smaller buildings are beautiful to look at. It is the larger sight that could possibly disappoint you, while the locals still recommend it. The museum in the city centre square right behind the harbour is free of charge and really worth it! To see larger ruins, you could best go to Rome or Athens.

- Renting vehicles
Something that is also very worth your money would be renting a bike, a 4x4 car or a buggy. It is actually very cheap! It’s great to explore the city this way instead of with the ‘touring trains’. The trains are a bit too expensive, I would say, and all four ‘different’ trains almost make the same routes along the former named sights. In my opinion, this wouldn’t be worth your money and a buggy definitely would!

- Water activities
If you have enough time left and do not have a weak stomach, you should totally do a boat tour and visit other islands. Some of the boats leave each hour, but beware: some of them only leave once per day! You can travel to Bodrum in Turkey, Kalymnos, Leros, Rhodos and a lot of other Greek islands. A lot of walking is involved in these kinds of activities. You can spent your given time in your own way, such as tanning on the beaches, drinking cocktails and of course, exploring the islands on foot! You also have the opportunity to learn how to scuba dive and because of the clear water in Greece, this is absolute amazing experience!

Have you ever been to Kos? What things do you and what thing don't you recommend doing?
