- Climb the stairs to the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery
Even though the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery itself is very impressive, the trail going up to the monastery is a lot of fun as well. As the monastery is build on top of a mountain, this means climbing many stairs for about 15 minutes, but you won’t get bored during the climb: along the stairs there are many golden statues of monks in all kinds of postures. You might even see some wild monkeys peeking at you! After you’ve reached the monastery, don’t forget to take a few more steps higher, because there’s more to see there as well!

- Hike over Lamma Island
There is a really nice walking trail going from one side of the island to the other side. You can take a ferry from the mainland to Pichic and follow the trail allt he way to Sha Po Old Village. The trail takes about an hour, but the views are absolutely splendid and totally worth the effort. After around 45 minutes you will pass Hung Shing Ye Beach, where you can take a refreshing dip. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water!

- Have your fortune explained by soothsayers at the Wong Tai Sin Temple
This temple, fully named the Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple, is especially famous for its claim to “make every wish come true upon request”. At this temple you can have your fortune explained as well! But first you will have to light some incense sticks, kneel in front of the main altar, make your wish, and shake the incense stick holder until one falls out. This particular stick presumably holds some information about your fortune, which you can have interpreted by one of the soothsayers that are present at the temple complex. But even if you don’t feel like having some old soothsayer telling you rubbish, the temple itself is worth a visitation as well.

- Go kayaking in the sea near Sai Kung
At Sha Ha Beach, Sai Kung you can rent cheap equipment for some kayaking in the sea. In the sea here there are multiple small islands where you can go to and have a rest at the beach, but you can also just paddle peacefully for a couple of hours. The surroundings are beautiful, and you’ll have a great view from the water!

- Visit Tai O fishing village
Tai O is a fishing village at Lantau Island, and it’s the perfect stop before heading to the Big Buddha, which is located on the same island. The fisher folk that has been living in Tai O for decades, lives in stilt houses in the water, making Tai O a tiny idyllic scene. Although it must have changed over the year, Tai O is still a bit authentic and you can still sense some of how the people used to live there. It is surely an interesting contrast with the modern city centre of Kowloon.

  1. Supporters of Islam are called Muslims. Muslims are monotheistic and love one, all-knowing God, who in Arabic is known as Allah. Supporters of Islam mean to carry on with an existence of complete accommodation to Allah. They accept that nothing can occur without Allah's consent, yet people have choice.
